Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 October 2026

In short: Skylore does not collect, store or share any personal data. Your location, camera and motion sensors are used only on your phone to show the sky, and nothing about you is ever sent to us.

Data we collect

None. Skylore:

  • does not ask you to create an account or give your name or email address,
  • shows no ads,
  • uses no analytics, statistics or tracking tools,
  • has no servers of its own and never sends information about you to us.

Location

If you allow it, Skylore uses your phone's location to show the sky exactly as it looks where you are: which stars, planets and satellites are above your horizon and when they rise and set. Your location is used only on your phone. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it is not stored anywhere except your phone's own settings. You can also pick a place by hand instead, or turn location off at any time in the iPhone Settings app under Privacy & Security → Location Services.

Camera

In “Point” mode, if you allow it, Skylore shows the live picture from your camera behind the star map, so the sky labels sit over the real sky. The picture is only displayed on your screen while you use this mode. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. You can turn camera access off at any time in the iPhone Settings app.

Motion sensors

Skylore reads your phone's compass and motion sensors so the map turns as you move your phone. These readings are used only on your phone, at the moment, and are not stored or sent anywhere.

Data on your phone

Your settings, your observation log and your badges are stored only on your phone. They are deleted when you delete the app. When iOS backs up your device (for example to iCloud), this information may be included in the backup; backups are made by Apple according to your settings.

Internet use

To keep the sky up to date, Skylore downloads public data: satellite orbits (including the International Space Station and Starlink) from CelesTrak, and the space-weather forecast for auroras from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). These are plain downloads of public files; no information about you, and not your location, is included in them. As with any internet request, these services can see your device's IP address, under their own privacy policies.

Sharing

If you choose to share a picture of the sky, a sky card or a link, Skylore opens your phone's standard share sheet and you decide where it goes. A shared link contains the place and time of the sky you shared, so whoever opens it sees the same view. Nothing is shared unless you do it yourself. Calendar reminders for sky events are handed to your calendar app the same way; Skylore does not read your calendar.

Purchases

If Skylore offers in-app purchases, they are handled entirely by Apple through your Apple ID. We do not receive your payment details.

Children

Because Skylore collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children either.

Third parties

Apart from the public data downloads described above, the app contains no third-party services, ad networks or data sharing.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page and the date above will be updated.
